When you first see Northwind, you will have no doubt about which vessel is the Matriarch of all around her, regardless of class. She has her own Aura which cannot be dimmed by any comparisons in the harbour. Her lines are a pleasure to view as you approach.
Boarding amidship, you make your way to the covered after deck which can be used for lounging or for dining both casually or formally. From the aft deck you move forward into the main salon. This area is the focal point or 'center' of the vessel. From here are stairways leading down to three main staterooms and companionway forward to dining salon and galley. The salon has comfortable seating in various forms, an entertainment center, and a wood burning fireplace. Easy lighting from wall hung fixtures allows either good reading and conversation or a more intimate nature in the evenings and it's plentiful windows keep it bright and lively during the day.
The starboard side companionway from the main salon moves you past an exit door to the outer deck near the boarding stepway and up into the forward or dining salon. Here is the space for formal dining or for meetings as they did during the war years. It's appearance has changed very little from when Northwind first sailed.
Just aft of the forward salon on the port side is the galley and an exit door to the port deck. The galley is very modern from the counter tops to the microwave and is laid out to be efficient and functional. It is supplemented by large freezers and fridges below decks. The galley is the only real significant change from the original plans or layout. When Northwind was built, the galley was below decks and there was a dumbwaiter system between the dining salon and belowdecks galley.

Returning to the main salon, you go below decks using the aft port stairway to a private stateroom. This accommodation has double bed, a large settee, and both tub and shower in the head. From the center of the salon on the starboard side, you go below using stairway to two more staterooms. The after one of the two can itself be divided into two rooms. It has a sliding divider that can split the space. The total of the space is two double beds plus a single and there is a tub and shower in the head. The forward of the two is the master suite. It features kingsize bed, extra floor space and Jacuzzi tub with shower and larger vanity in the head. All the staterooms have both air conditioning and heating.
Forward of the staterooms below decks is the engine space. Access is from the starboard companionway or from the outer deck, port side. And then, forward of the engine room, is the crews' quarters with access from forward end of starboard companionway. The crews' quarters have yet to be refurbished; they will be last in current owner's plan of work. There are three staterooms, an eating/lounge area, and head with shower for the crew. Also in this area is one room with freezers and fridges, pantry, and washer/dryer. Finally, forward of crews' quarters is the forepeak with access from main deck forward. There is storage for all the miscellaneous ship' supplies and items.
The upper deck has access from main deck aft as well as midships on port side. There is a very large open deck area aft as well as open area midships between the tenders and wheelhouse. The wheelhouse has doors leading aft on both port and starboard sides and a Master's cabin behind the control area. The cabin features double bed and desk area. Forward of the wheelhouse (accessed from center of wheelhouse) is a "Portuguese" bridge which overlooks the spacious maindeck area on the bow.
